Making patterns with pieces of glass or tiles is a form of art that is carried out in many parts of the world. We can find many mosaic ideas from all cultures. One of the oldest arts around are the mosaic tile flooring patterns made by Romans. The Greeks who also did this featured geometrics in their artworks. In modern day you may find a mosaic work shop in your town. Maybe even catch a mosaic ideas special on the design channel. This is a fun creative past time, especially for kids. There are many styles of this form of art. By sharing our mosaic ideas we can express what type of artist we are.
When it comes to children I like to start off simple. This helps prevent losing their interest. With my 3 grandchildren I gave them each a flat wooden oval and a few colors of flat glass beads. These pieces are flat on one side with the rest rounded. Even though we only used a few different types I made sure the kids had a chance to experiment with the colors. This gave them a chance to understand the concept. We only used non-toxic white glue. I do not use grout with the children. It was very successful for the 4, 5 and 6 years old boys. Once they decided that mosaic was actually quite fun, they decided to try out other activities at another time.
I love mosaic and I love kids. My mosaic teacher also hosts birthday parties at her shop Mosaic by Christine. In the end we both agree that we all have fun and the kids help come up with some of the best mosaic ideas. If you have any experience with mosaic and kids I want to hear about them. Please share along with any other mosaic ideas in the comments below.

It is raining here so I am going to use your mosaic ideas and keep the kids busy. I like your teachers web page. If I’m ever in NY I will have to check it out.

It is really nice to learn new things. Mosaic is difficult and time consuming but the work is rewarding. I visited the website too. Lots of pleasing artwork.
